What is Stelian cold-pressed flaxseed oil?

Stelian cold-pressed flaxseed oil is 100% natural, raw and unrefined. We produce it in small batches in Sibiu, from brown flaxseeds. We press gently, below 25–30°C. Thus we spare the heat-sensitive fatty acids and keep acidity very low. The oil is golden in colour, fine in taste, lightly nutty, without bitterness or fishy taste whilst fresh. We neither refine nor blend with other oils. It is bottled in a 250 ml dark glass bottle. The dark glass shields the oil from light — essential for an oil so sensitive.

What is in flaxseed oil — a source of Omega-3

Flaxseed oil is one of the richest plant sources of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). ALA is a fatty acid of the Omega-3 family. Alpha-linolenic acid contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 2 g of ALA, within a varied and balanced diet. That 2 g is roughly one teaspoon of flaxseed oil. The oil is made up mostly of polyunsaturated fats. Its ALA content comfortably exceeds the threshold for "high in Omega-3". It is 100% plant-based, suitable for vegetarian and vegan diets.

How to use and store cold-pressed flaxseed oil

Flaxseed oil is not for heating and not for frying. Use it cold only, as a finishing oil. Stir a teaspoon into your morning yoghurt. Add it to a smoothie or porridge. Drizzle it over salads and vegetables. Spoon it over baked potatoes or hummus, or mix it into curd cheese. One teaspoon a day covers the 2 g of Omega-3. Use a tablespoon if you would like more. The taste is fine and clean.

Fresh flaxseed oil, from healthy seed, does not smell or taste of fish. Its aroma is fine and nutty. A fishy smell is the sign of oxidation. This is why we press to order and bottle in dark glass. Flax is the most delicate of oils. Keep it in the fridge — ideally both before and after opening. Use it within 6–8 weeks of opening.
